Summer Showers
Summer has arrived and it will be close to 90 degrees here in NJ today. I started thinking about summer baby showers. I love summer entertaining. It is so easy when you have a barbecue grill. I have to be honest - hosting an outdoor summer baby shower is not fun in the heat. Many people dress nicely for a baby shower & mom to be should be comfortable as well. No one wants to be sweating during any party. Here are a few ideas for hosting a summer baby shower:
- If the humidity is high no one will be comfortable even if you have your party in the shade.
- You can always grill the food outside, but serve the food indoors.
- Mom to be MUST be comfortable or she won’t be able to enjoy her baby shower. While an outdoors summer party sounds like a great idea - be sensitive to mom to be’s needs.

Tea Party Baby Shower Theme
Does mommy to be love tea? Why not throw a tea party baby shower? You can fill inexpensive teapots with flowers for centerpieces. The centerpieces can also double as prizes for baby shower games. Give your guests tea bag baby shower favors. If you have a baby shower wishing well, you can decorate them as tea cups. You can offer different types of hot and iced teas for beverages. Your meal can be as light as hors d’oeuvres or more substantial, such as sandwiches, salads, and sides.
If you want to host a whimsical baby shower why not have a Mad Hatter Tea Party. You can have all of your guests wear crazy hats. The person with the craziest hat can win a prize.
Strawberry Spinach Salad
Our family loves this recipe, especially during the summer when strawberries are in season in NJ.
Salad:
1 bag of Baby Spinach
2 pints of strawberries cut into wedges
1 red onion, sliced (optional)
Dressing:
1/2 cup of Mayo
2 Tablespoons of Cider Vinegar
1 to 2 Tablespoons of poppyseeds
1/3 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of milk
Toss baby spinach, strawberry wedges and onions together. Mix dressing, but don’t add to the salad until you are ready to serve. Serves 10 people.
Baby Bath Gift Idea
A great way to create a unique baby gift is to group like items together in a fun and creative container. My favorite gift to create is a Baby Bath “Basket”. Purchase a baby bath tub. Fill the tub with bath accessories: washcloths, baby wash, shampoo, bath towels, tub toys, etc. You want your tub to look full. A trick is to fill the tub with loosely crumpled clean newsprint. Then lay a decorative filler like tissue shred on top. This will elevate the bath products inside. Arrange your products in the tub, wrap with cello or tulle, and top it off with a large bow. Everyone is sure to admire your hard work!!
