Baby Toys
I was watching a morning news show earlier this week. They had an author of a toy review book, Joanne Oppenheim, as their guest. This woman was giving tips on buying toys for babies. She said to avoid those baby activity toys with all the lights and flash. If you already have one of those toys she suggests to turn off lights. She said the best toy for newborns is mommy or daddy talking or singing with puppets. This helps to build their vocabulary.
This woman also stated that the age ranges on the toys do not necessarily reflect the developmental age of the baby. For example, many stacker toys have an age range of 12 months. Many babies developmentally are not able to stack toys until about 18 months.
